Fibonacci Sequence

(Published on 29. May 2023, 05:00 by Will Power)

Normal Sudoku rules apply. The value of a dashed region is the sum of the numbers within the region. The values of all regions form a Fibonacci sequence beginning with the two-cell region that contains the gray cell. This first region begins the puzzle with the lowest Fibonacci Number possible in a two-cell Sudoku region. The values of regions increase in the Fibonacci sequence in a clockwise spiral pattern created by the regions. Numbers outside regions are not a part of the sequence count. Regions below 46 total do not have numbers repeated in the region. Numbers with an X between them sum to 10. Numbers with a V between them sum to 5. Numbers with a black dot between them are in a ratio of 2:1. Not all possible X, V and dots are given. The Fibonacci Sequence can be found on the internet, if needed.

VERY NICE!The sum of the last big cage has never been used. spoiler alert! https://youtu.be/85qaCEzFa10

@wenchang Thank you so much for featuring this puzzle on your YouTube channel. I am glad you liked it. -Will Power

I think this would be far simpler to explain if you didn't even mention the Fibonacci Sequence in the rules and just put the region values in the upper left corner of each region. Still, keep the same puzzle name and those who are familiar with the sequence will know and those who are not won't need to know.

I didn't even need consider the cage values of the biggest 2 cages while solving. I still enjoyed the solve, so thank you for the puzzle!

@TomMalufe Thanks for your comments. I usually boil the rules down to the simplest form possible. This was one instance where I ask the solver, indirectly, to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Since the solving community rates the puzzle a one-star difficulty, hopefully the extra hunt for the sequence added value for some people. This additional solving layer will not be a regular occurrence in my puzzles. Peace to you. -Will Power

Very nice! Took me a while to understand the bit about the start, but the rest was smooth and easy - our local energy company has the start of the Fibonacci sequence on their old chimney:

Nice, but a bit hard for me when I got stuck in the middle and did not see clear path through.
