Serpent with a lisp

(Published on 4. March 2023, 09:36 by Lutterot)

Rules
Standard sudoku rules apply.
Shade some cells such that they form a snake: a one-cell wide string of orthogonally connected cells. The snake doesn't touch it itself orthogonally, its head and tail are the grey circles, and it visits each box at least once. The snake only bends and ends on digits 1 and 9; the straight parts of the snake are thermometers: digits are in increasing order along each straight part. The white circles are not on the snake and each contains a different digit. These digits indicate how many of their orthogonally and diagonally adjacent cells are snake cells.

I do not enjoy serpent puzzles in general, but somehow you managed that. Kudos!

The rules are a little unclear. If we assume the circle without a 9 is the starting, it must be true that digits increase from there until a 9 is reached (thermo rules), but then once a turn is made at 9, the digits must decrease down to 1 to turn again (still a thermo but in the opposite direction). Is this correct?

Yes you are correct.
