Intergrowth (Psycho Look-and-Say/Entropic lines/Modular lines) collab with bellsita

(Eingestellt am 25. Februar 2023, 12:51 Uhr von dumediat)

This is a puzzle that bellsita and I created using Psycho Look-and-Say cages. This is the third in the series of puzzles using this constraint, and (fair warning) we think it is much more difficult than the first two. Please feel free to try Staurolite or Look-and-Scream first if you would like a gentler introduction.

Ratings, comments, and feedback are much appreciated! Please feel free to reach out to me on Discord if you have any comments or questions. Please also feel free to try my other puzzles here.

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Modular lines: Each set of three consecutive digits on a cyan line must be one each from [147], [258], and [369].
  • Entropic lines: Each set of three consecutive digits on a tan line must be one each of a low [123], middle [456] and high [789] digit.
  • Pink cages are psycho look-and-say cages. In these cages, the digits in the cage point to boxes in the grid, and provide a referred cell which is in the same position in both boxes. The number in the top left corner should be read as a look-and-say number, which says the number of times a digit appears in the cells referenced by that cage (eg, a "23" clue means there are two 3s in the referenced cells). Digits placed within cages do not count towards the look-and-say total unless they are self-referencing, and digits may not repeat in cages.

To help familiarize yourself with the rules of psycho look-and-say cages, here is a playable 6x6 example puzzle that you may try first (green cells in the solution are ones that are referencing another cell, and gray cells are ones that are not):

Very mad puzzle. Crazy but very interesting break-in requiring a lot of thinking about the constraints and how they interact. Took a while to figure it out, but was very satisfying to do so.
Very nice use of givens as well.

Very much enjoyed this, thanks!

Wow! I really loved the first version of this puzzle, but the changes made it even better! Such a brilliant execution of showing how the rulesets all interact :)

Once I understand how to tackle it, the puzzle flowed very nicely. Had a lot of fun testing it. :)
