Sword in the Stone

(Published on 24. February 2023, 14:30 by ViKingPrime)

PUZZLE:

RULES:

Normal Sudoku rules apply.

Kropki: White dots separate two cells containing digits of consecutive value; Black dots separate two cells where one is double the value of the other [ratio of 1:2] (not all dots are given).

MODIFIERS:

Möbius: Each separate instance of the digit 1 may be considered as having the value of either 1 or 10 (but not both).

INTRODUCTION:

This is another iteration on the above-mentioned modifier. I'd like to begin mixing and matching different rule-sets with it but I suspect its important to explore the logic around each variant first before throwing them in the pot together. Please note that each Kropki dot is considered its own rule-set and thus any digit 1 may be simultaneously 1 and 10 in value.

I originally put the highlighting in for the thumbnail - so people would know where the title came from - however it was recommended I leave it in place. You have the choice in the links below.

I'm tentatively rating this a 1-star for difficulty given the response from "Record Highs" however please let me know if I should adjust it. Also if you liked it, I like hearing that too!

Have fun!

I've solved a couple Mobius puzzles and I love how it shakes up the logic a bit. Thank you for sharing!

Very nice puzzle both visually and solving-wise.

Really loving this new Mobius rule, great work.

Solved this using my standard method of making a stupid mistake somewhere, starting over, and finishing it in ten minutes.

I agree with FreeSweeties. The tricky part is retraining one's instincts to capture all aspects of 1's reinvention. Master that and it isn't a difficult puzzle at all, though mastering it can still be a challenge and requires serious concentration. More please!

EDIT: Thank you all for the kind words. I have another puzzle with the same modifier to release in the next few days and to my mind, it's the best of the bunch. Keep an eye out! - VKP

Very enjoyable puzzle, really liking the mobius series and having to rethink normal instincts.

Nice puzzle! I like the twist of the Mobius modifier :) And I think the break-in is tricky enough to warrant a 2-star rating.

"I mean, if I went 'round sayin' I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!"

EDIT: Thank you! I appreciate the input - I tried, it's too late for me to change the difficulty at this point though, I'm afraid (might have improved the experience for some if I'd set it to two-stars at the start; setting proper expectations is so important for people's enjoyment, I find) - VKP
