Liar Japanese Sums #4 - Ciphered Yin Yang

(Eingestellt am 1. Februar 2023, 11:22 Uhr von Niverio)

Number four! This is the first time I am incorporating a shading puzzle genre into the series, and thus, didn't want to make it too difficult. But it still has its tricky moments. Estimated difficulty is 3-3.5 stars for people experienced in both Japanese Sums and Yin-Yang, 4 stars otherwise. Enjoy!

Rules:
Latin Square: Place the digits 1-9 in every row and column without repeats.

Liar Japanese Sums: Shade some cells in the grid such that clues outside the grid indicate the sums of the continuous blocks of unshaded cells in that row or column. At least one shaded cell must separate the blocks. For every clued row or column, 2 different sets are provided (Left / Right for rows, Top / Bottom for columns.) One set is correct, with correct sums in the correct order.(Always left to right or top to bottom.) The other set is a lie. Which sets are correct must be determined by the solver. In these sets, some sums are given as ? clues. ? clues are single digit clues, ?? clues are two-digit clues, and the leading ? cannot be a zero.

Cipher: Outside clues are ciphered, where every distinct letter stands in for a unique digit 0-9. Every digit is assigned to a unique letter as well.

Yin-Yang: All unshaded cells should form a single interconnected area and similarly, all shaded cells should form a single interconnected area. There cannot exist any 2x2 cell region consisting of the same shading anywhere in the grid.

Puzzle Links: You can play the puzzle in either:
F-Puzzles
CTC
Penpa+
CTC and Penpa versions have answer check included for correct number placement, including the cryptic column. (Note: In CTC version you have to keep the column containing the letter corresponding to 0 empty for "F-Puzzles is dumb and you cannot place a 0 in it" reasons.)

A big thank you and a shoutout to the Skunkworks community for the live collab test/solve on this puzzle the night it was set.

Lösungscode: Quick note: I had a very lovely name idea for this puzzle if I wasn't naming them conventionally: Devil's Diagonal. It shall be clear why once you solve the puzzle and type this solution code in ;)

Numbers on the negative diagonal (from top-left to bottom right) followed by the numbers on the positive diagonal (from bottom-left to top-right). 18 digits, no commas or spaces.

Very nice! I'm not totally familiar with the rules of Japanese sums, so I am not sure that my assumption that there can not be a single zero clue in a fully shaded row or column was allowed. It did lead to the solution though. Thank you

Lovely puzzle! Quite similar difficulty to the previous one for me (~4), because although no deduction was particularly hard, the ways in which to get stuck was much more varied, haha. In the end I prevailed, though! :-)

Great Japanese Sums variant thanks! Not too hard, but it requires very good scanning.

Very fun and smooth solve! I was impressed that this grid can resolve with just one given digit.
