Nurimisaki Sudoku - Whispers

(Published on 9. November 2022, 16:15 by Mark Sweep)

This puzzle was inspired by a recent puzzle by rockratzero. I basically wanted to create such a puzzle without the need for Kropki dots. Definitely check out their creation as well!

Rules
Both Nurimisaki and Sudoku rules apply. In addition, orthogonally adjacent cells along the Nurimisaki path (unshaded cells) have a difference of at least 5.

Nurimisaki Rules
Shade some cells so that the remaining unshaded cells form one orthogonally connected area. No 2x2 region may be entirely shaded or unshaded. Circles mark every instance of a cell which is unshaded and orthogonally adjacent to exactly one other unshaded cell (i.e. the circles are the only ‘endpoints’ of the unshaded area). If a circle contains a number, it indicates how many cells are in the straight line of unshaded cells coming out of the cell with the circle, including itself.

Excellent puzzle, with lots of interesting deductions! got stuck in the midsolve but then realized the fact of 'endpoints', after that the solve was smooth! Thanks :)

I really enjoyed this as well! At first I was baffled by the difficulty and thought I got all the way to a deadly pattern but that made me realize I'd forgotten the 2x2 rule and spun my wheels for a long time. After I got that sorted it was definitely fun and flowed nicely! Never done a Nurimisaki before either and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
