Sprawl

(Published on 22. September 2022, 20:27 by jovi_al)

This puzzle is inspired by the work of udukos, specifically this puzzle.

Normal Sudoku rules apply.

X-Sums: Clues outside the grid give the sum of the first X digits in the row or column reading from the direction of the clue, where X is the digit placed in the cell next to the clue.

Killer: Digits in cages must not repeat, and must sum to the number in the top left corner.

Hybrid: Killer cages may leave the grid. Caged cells outside the grid act as X-Sums clues. A double-digit X-Sums clue inside of a killer cage prevents both of its digits from appearing anywhere else in the cage (this does mean 11, 22, 33, and 44 are disallowed as X-Sums clues, as those would repeat digits in a cage).

For answer check to work, use "Sudoku" to place all of the digits in the grid, and "Number" to place all of the X-Sums clues affected by cages.

Solution code: Column 4, column 6.

Hard puzzle, around the same difficulty as udukos's. I'd recommend new solvers to first check out udukos's version.

Wonderful and lovely puzzle! The wording kind of baffled me at first in terms of how the cage total works but after understanding its actual meaning, it's a great fun solve with lots of engaging yet intricate logic, and I'm glad that I finally caught up with your list x)

This is definitely my favourite ruleset at the moment. Thanks for the great puzzle

Maybe I’m biased because I have set with a similar ruleset myself, but I don't think this is too tricky. Very fun puzzle to test, and I would like to see more clues-going-outside-the-grid type stuff from everyone. Such an awesome sudoku subgenre.

It was lots of fun to collab test this one out! Some neat arithmetic tricks with some jovi shenanigans involved :)
