Chess Piece Promotion
(Eingestellt am 22. September 2022, 09:44 Uhr von Oripy)
I started working on this puzzle after watching some chess games. I wanted to create a puzzle that contains all chess pieces, I hope you have fun.
Rules:
- Normal 9x9 Sudoku rules apply:
Numbers from 1 to 9 must occur once in each row, column and 3x3 region.
- Additionally, in the grid 9 cages represent "Promotion" spots. Each spot promotes the digit it will contain to its marked chess piece. The constraint then applies to all equal digits in the grid.
- The Q cage promotes all equal digits to Queens. Queens digits cannot appear on the same column, row or diagonal.
- The K cage promotes all equal digits to Kings. Kings digits cannot touch orthogonally or diagonally.
- The R cages promote all equal digits to Rooks. Rooks with the same digit cannot appear on the same row or column.
- The B cages promote all equal digits to Bishops. Bishops with the same digit cannot appear on the same diagonal.
- The N cages promote all equal digits to kNights. Knights with the same digit cannot appear in a cell 3x2 away from itself (in a chess knight move).
- The P cage promotes all equal digits to Pawns. Pawns cannot appear in the 4 cells diagonal from itself.
- All cages contain a different number.
- Notes:
Due to the nature of Sudoku constraints, some piece constraints could end up being identical and/or redundant.
Puzzle can be tried at f-puzzles here or CTC (includes solution check) here
Lösungscode: Enter line 1 left to right and then column 9 top to bottom (18 digits, no space or comma).

I liked this variant - quite approachable if you make use of the rules correctly. Thanks for that puzzle!

I would say once you understand the ruleset and how to apply it, the puzzle is a solid one-star. A very nice puzzle with an interesting set of rules!

I agree, definitely harder than 1 star. But very nice constraint, thank you for setting it!..

What an interesting rule set! I enjoyed solving this, although it’s definitely harder than 1 star
> Oripy: Thank you for the kind word and for solving my puzzle! It's still difficult for me to rate a puzzle, and even harder to evaluate my own creation!
