Normal sudoku rules apply.
The shaded 3x3 regions are cloned magic squares (comprising the digits 1 to 9 once each) where each row, column, and diagonal (of 3 digits) sum to the same number.
Digits in the cages (also cloned) sum to the clue in the top left corner.
The grey lines are palindromes; they read the same in both directions.

nice puzzle. The comments on magic square helped. I was over thinking missing the part where the magic squares needed to be 1 to 9 as well. At first I thought they might include double digits.
I also wasn't sure what cloned meant.

My fastest 9x9 solve on this site so far, but probably helped a lot by knowing magic square fundamentals from CTC. Only took 9:14

Fun puzzle. I benefited from having seen a solve involving magic squares on Cracking the Cryptic YouTube.

Clarified details of the Magic Squares.

Really nice puzzle. I think explicitly stating the magic squares have the numbers 1 to 9 once only would be helpful for those not familiar with them as others have said. Otherwise, the solution falls out neatly and it's a satisfying solve.

I liked this puzzle, thank you Blobz. I think it is more than a 1* difficulty though. Or maybe I was just being thick. Probably the latter.

To be clear, in the magic squares the numbers 1-9 are each used exactly once. Areas being cloned means they have the same numbers placed in the same places, without being mirrored or rotated.

Very enjoyable. Not sure about people rating it 1* as I think it takes some extra magic square fundamentals that newer puzzlers might not know. But maybe you can do it without that knowledge.
