The rule of 36 and the 3 6-cages

(Published on 17. April 2022, 00:38 by zeneszerzo)

This is my first ever puzzle to publish here! It is a Sudoku-Heyawake mix. I hope you will enjoy it!

Rules

  1. Normal Sudoku rules apply. Normal kropki and thermo rules apply. (Explained later if needed)
  2. Also, normal Heyawake rules apply (explained later if needed): each Sudoku killer cage is a room, and any leftover orthogonally connected region is also a room. Note: Only the killer cages are walls, Sudoku box borders are not walls! (Thanks, @cmb)
  3. If a Sudoku killer cage contains a shaded cell, the cage must also contain the digit which tells how many shaded cells there are in the cage. (It can be on a shaded or a non-shaded cell.) (This does not apply to non-cage rooms.)
  4. If a Sudoku killer cage has a given clue, the non-shaded cells in that cage have to sum to the clue.
  5. Digits cannot repeat within the non-shaded cells in a killer cage.

Kropki dots: The two cells between a black dot have a ratio of 1:2

Thermometers: The digits in the thermometer shapes must be strictly increasing in each cell from the round bulb to the end

Normal Heyawake rules

  • Shade some cells, so that the remaining unshaded cells remain orthogonally connected
  • Shaded cells cannot be orthogonally adjacent to each other
  • Where a straight (orthogonal) line of connected unshaded cells is formed, it must not contain cells from more than two rooms. In other words, any such line of unshaded cells which connects three or more rooms is forbidden.

Hint 1

Hint 2

Solve on f-puzzles It doesn't check the killer sums or the heyawake shadings.

Solve on Cracking the Cryptic It doesn't check the killer sums or the heyawake shadings.

Solution code: List the non-shaded digits from row 8 and 9 without any space between them

Never heard of Heyawake before, looked it up, the solve was very nice. Took exactly an hour (compare to 3+ hours for very hard puzzles)
