Chaos Construction: Stitches

(Eingestellt am 18. Februar 2022, 01:00 Uhr von XeonRisq)

This is a Chaos Construction Sudoku/Stitches hybrid. The rules look long, but it's really not a very complicated ruleset.
If you are not familiar with Stitches, you can familiarize yourself with the puzzle at this website: https://www.puzzle-stitches.com
  • The digits 1 to 9 must appear once in every row, column, and region.
  • Regions are to be determined by the solver, and must be a set of nine orthogonally connected cells.
  • Stitches: A stitch connects 2 orthogonally adjacent cells from different regions.
  • Every region will be connected to each region it borders by exactly one stitch each.
  • 2 stitches cannot share a cell.
  • The clues outside the grid (in BLACK, on the left and top of the grid) indicate the number of stitch cells in that row/column.
  • A stitch that spans two cells horizontally will act as a white kropki dot, the digits in the cells will be consecutive.
  • A stitch that spans two cells vertically will act as a black kropki dot, the digits in the cells will have a ratio of 2:1.
  • Region and cell clues: The clues outside the grid (in BLUE, on the right and bottom of the grid) indicate the number of regions seen in that row/column.
  • The digit in a square cell denotes how many stitches exist in that region.
  • The digit in a circle cell denotes how many cells that can be seen both vertically and horizontally in that region including itself, before the first differing region cell; (the circle cell only contributes it's digit once to the total.)
  • All squares and circles have been given.

Very cool, original and quite difficult, but a lot of fun to figure out :)

Thanks ONeill, this was my first stab at a CC puzzle, don't think I would have done things the same way now, but it's fun to look back at the early puzzles (and see it still gets solved from time to time).

One of the hardest solves I ever did. Worth every one of the 413 minutes I spent on it !

Many thanks for the solve and the nice compliment. Appreciate your perseverance to conquer it!!

very nice puzzle with some weird logic to find first the regions. Solving the irregular sudoku afterwards was a breeze. Thanks.

Appreciate the solve and feedback. Happy to hear that the puzzle was enjoyable.

Further rule clarification please: If there's a 3×3 region A, and two snake-like regions B and C that wrap around A and meet at both sides. Would B and C have only one connecting stich between them, or two - i. e. one on each side, since they have not one, but two stretches of common borders?
-----
If regions meet in multiple places, they will still only have one stitch, because it's one stitch connecting two different regions, regardless of how many times they border in different parts of the grid. (just look at it this way, if they ever share a border in the grid, it will be 1 stitch somewhere along their border)

Looking at the linked site has only gotten me more confused about the rules. I understand that not every pair of cells across two regions is automatically a stich, correct? But does every region need to have exactly one stich with every one of its neighbors? That seems to be the case for those stich puzzles, but it's not stated anywhere for this sudoku.
-----
You are correct and sorry for the oversight. Someone suggested I move that rule to the stitches section were it wasn't during testing, and when I was writing the rules here, I removed it from the top section but forgot to put it in the stitches section. Rules updated properly now.
