The numbers in the margin indicate hidden straight thermometers. I.e. some adjacent digits in a row or column must sum to the number in the margin, and they must be in increasing or decreasing order.
Numbers in parentheses, if given, indicate how many digits are included in the sum.
If there are clues on both sides of a row or column, they reference one thermometer each in that row or column.
Hidden thermometers can cross eachother, but never overlap in the same row or column.
