I think you have overlooked the possibility that the cage in R4/5C2 can be 1+3=4. If you assume it's a 79 pair, the puzzle solves smoothly. However, since a 13 pair is possible, the only way to finish is by bifurcating.
~~~ You know it's funny, I was re-attempting this puzzle *just last week*! I'd kinda stopped doing sudoku for a few months, was just getting back into it, and thought I'd try some of my earlier puzzles for fun. And in so doing, I noticed that it seemed INCREDIBLY hard / impossible, and I must've made a mistake in setting or test-solving it!
Long story short, I think you are 100% correct - I must've made an unwarranted assumption in my solve path, and bifurcation is needed. I don't think this was my finest setting hour, for sure :p
I see you were working through my puzzles, thank you! I think my favourite of my own puzzles so far is "4d6", and the community seems to agree :)
V2: minor edit made by adding a cage in R5C1 on 22-Nov-21. No impact on the solution, or logical path, but it allows for a neat Easter egg!
