Squares and Circles

(Published on 15. August 2021, 20:17 by Burning Curtains)

Normal Sudoku Rules Apply.

Digits may not repeat within cages; Every cage sums to a square number (eg. 0, 1, 4, 9...)

Digits joined by a white kropki dot are consecutive.

There are 9 hidden zeros throughout the grid, which count as 0 for the purpose of the cage sums and kropkis. The hidden zeros follow the rules of sudoku (1 in every row, column, and box), and consist of all the digits 1-9 once each. Hidden zeros may not repeat within cages.

This is one of my favorite puzzles. The variety of logic is terrific, and there are so many interesting situations that are surprisingly constrained when given a minute's thought. So glad I belatedly came across this through my recent CTC addiction. :) Thank you!

Suppose I found out that there is a "0" in R1C1 which replaces the "6" in block 1.
Does this mean that this "0" also replaces the "6" in R1 and C1, so that there can be no "6" in either R1 or C1 or in block 1?

I also didn't think this puzzle had a logical path. Was convinced it was mostly trial and error of combinations. @Burning Curtains kindly guided me through the solution in a stream, and it was tricky but beautiful. I will not log in a solve, since I did not solve it - wish I had spent a bit more time on it in hindsight. Certainly exceptional setting!

One of the best puzzles I've solved so far. Tested it on the discord. At first, not believing that there can be a logical way to solve it. But there is one and it was extraordinarly satisfying to find it :)
