Position Sums mit Kropki-Paaren

(Published on 8. February 2021, 15:41 by glum_hippo)

Fill the grid with digits 1 to 9 so that each row, column and 3x3 box contains each digit exactly once.

Digits in the first and second cell from the top and from the left are A and B. Clues outside the grid tell something about A and B: The clue closest to the grid gives the sum of A and B. The sum of the digits on positions A and B from that side is given in the clue in the grey bar.

EXAMPLE: the digits sequence 841627935 have A=8 and B=4, so A+B will be 12, and the sum of the 8th and the 4th (Ath plus Bth) digit is 3+6 = 9.

A hollow circle indicates consecutive values, a filled circle indicates a ratio of 1:2 between values. The digits 1 & 2 may be separated by either a hollow or a filled circle. Not all circles are shown.

The puzzle can be solved in Penpa+ here.

SudokuPad version.

Solution code: The digits of row 8 inside the grid, then column 9 (18 digits total, without the clue cell contents)

Very cool puzzle with a very smart opening and some very nice deductions. Well done!

Very kind of you to say! I think this is the more approachable of my three Position Sums hybrids from that time. I was planning ones with Average Arrows and Killer cages as well but never got around to it. Maybe in 2025!
---
You are welcome Philipp!
Yes, this is for sure the most approachable one, but still 5 stars (two times).
For the arrows I had to dig really deep and the renban is still on top of my pile of unsolved ones, with only a few notes on the digits in box 1. But no serious progress yet. Maybe in 2025 too. :-)

Overall, I believe the renban one is easier than the (conventional) arrow one, but not by much. Hope you have an excellent new year!

Hard to believe I actually found the solution path. The entry is really well hidden.

— for better or worse, I tried to keep kropki inside the sudoku grid, unattached to the edges, to a minimum. More constructions are surely possible. g_h
