We, father Frans Wentholt and son Jurre Klinkenberg both love the beautiful variant Sixy Sudoku by the great puzzle composer Peter Ritmeester, that premiered in The New York Times. Because only digits 1-6 are used, there is an instant overview. A 9x9 Sudoku inevitably has the time consuming aspect of a Where's Wally-like puzzle. You have to let your eyes wander over the grid. In the 6x6 grid of a Sixy Sudoku, the emphasis is much more on thinking instead of training your eyes’ muscles, because it’s smaller and because of the extra layer of elegant logic. For those who haven’t seen them: Peter Ritmeester’s brilliant idea is giving the grid not only six 2x3 Boxes, but also transverse 2x3 regions that contain the digits 1 to 6.
More about Sixy Sudoku and other beautiful variations you can find on www.PZZL.com. Highly recommended, a whole world opens up for you!
Initially as a thought game, we wondered whether this variant could be combined with rules from other variants. Antiknight constraint and Nonconsecutive constraint were quickly eliminated for obvious reasons, but the Antiking constraint proved to be workable. Thus we created an Antiking Sixy Sudoku. Antiking: two cells that touch each other diagonally may not contain the same digit. (Hence the name of our puzzle. It’s not linked to the US GOP.)
Do give it a try, we appreciate your ratings and comments.
