1-2-'21 Palindrome
(Published on 1. February 2021, 10:00 by Frans Wentholt)
Tattarrattat! It’s 1-2-’21, Palindrome Day!
For this occasion, my son Jurre and I created a Sudoku with two groups of digits: a square one with digits counting up from
1, and a circular one with digits counting up from
2. It also contains four (
212) palindromes for this occasion. And there’s an Anti-Knight constraint in this Sudoku (no
2 squares which are a knight's move apart, may contain
1 and the same digit). Remember: a knight in chess moves
2 cells in one direction, and
1 in another - so that's appropriate for today!
Of course, normal Sudoku rules apply.
It could be a nice challenge using as few as possible pencil marks. Testing our Logical Path, Jurre and I only had to use them once, for a hidden pair (what symbolises
2), all other digits can be filled in immediately because they are hidden or naked singles (
1's). Jurre and I exclaimed many times, in excitement: “Top spot!” (which is a palindrome).
