Standard Sudoku Rules apply to the final numerical layout.
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther presented his "95 Theses", statements of theological assertion in opposition to Catholic teaching of the time. Whichever side of the debate you're on, it is now either a famous or infamous day in history.
October, the Tenth Month: All places on the grid where two orthogonally connected cells sum to 10 are marked with an X.
The 31st: In addition to the Killer Cages that each sum to 31, note that there are only two places on the final grid where a 3 and a 1 appear horizontally adjacent as the number "31".
1517: The historic year appears four times in the final grid. It will be in a straight line and in order; but it may read in any direction, orthogonally or diagonally, up or down, left or right.
95 Theses: The grey cells forming a cross add up to 95.

Setter's Diary :: October 23, 2020 :: For Halloween I was considering something where, perhaps, Thermometers created the outline of a ghost or pumpkin, but some preliminary doodles failed to satisfy me.
Having seen an earlier puzzle in which the setter incorporated Mozart's birth and death years into the grid, I started with the idea of "1517" and, in my usual unhinged way, ended up with references to October, the 31st, and the number 95. So yes, this is yet another puzzle that is not for those who prefer neat and tidy.
I debated waiting until closer to Halloween, but found myself with some downtime today and figured I'd get a head start on "the holidays" by posting it now.
October 25, 2020 :: In response to user comments, I have officially tried out using F-Puzzles to make a solvable version online. I guess my old-fashioned ways of paper and pencil are dying out, ha ha. If you're reading this, all went well and the link just under the puzzle image works!

Happy to have brought this one out of the blue zone. Very nice puzzle!
*** My new hero! lol - And thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

@Big Tiger - very enjoyable puzzle! Sorry it hasn't got more solves (and that my 12th solve wasn't enough to get it a rating). Downside of so many puzzles is that often puzzles don't get enough solves for a rating

Well, I'm pretty proud of this one - worked hard to make it a challenge, not giving away too many clues ... I'm sorry it got lost in the shuffle of a busy weekend: Three days later it's not even on the first page of Sudoku puzzles. Kind of a bummer. Thank you to everyone who has participated so far.

Thank you Big Tiger.
I used the grey cells, don´t know if you could do the puzzle without them.

Great one from start to finish, pure logic and enjoyment, thank you @Big Tiger :) Also, f-puzzles link did help, I probably wouldn't try it if there was no link...
*** I guess I'd better start learning how to create solving grids on that site then, lol.

Quite hard and tricky but still an interesting one :)
*** Hey, if it's because it's providing a challenge, I'll accept that, ha ha.

@Big Tiger... Probably because there was no online solver for it. I made a link for you. https://f-puzzles.com/?id=y6c3tz3y
*** Thank you. I'm wondering if this is a rising trend because the lack of an online platform for solving didn't seem to stop people on my earlier puzzles. Y'all are getting lazy, ha ha :-D
