Dritter Pfeilchenstrauß

(Published on 10. September 2020, 22:00 by glum_hippo)

Third bouquet of arrows

The usual Sudoku rules apply, i.e., in each row, column, 3x3 box, and the marked (descending) diagonal there must be exactly one each of the digits 1-9.

The digits along an arrow sum either to the number in the circle (x) or to the square of that number (x times x). The circled digit does not contribute to any sum. There are also 2 cases of paired cells in a circle (oval). Here, the two cells should be read as a two digit number, reading from left to right.

If this is the easier one I won’t even bother looking at the others...very very difficult for me.

That’s certainly your prerogative, thank you for trying this one. And there were some who dissented, eg SKORP17; authors (especially me) are not the best judges of difficulty

Thanks. I really didn’t mean to sound harsh and I have enjoyed many of your puzzles. But I spent a lot of time with this one and think I found all the logic but can’t get the second row to work out at the end (probably made a fatal arithmetic error somewhere mid-solve)...being told it’s easy can add to frustration...I am trying to cut back on 4 and 5 star puzzles I attempt but they are often the most interesting. As a pure solver I admire puzzle composers and thank you for your time...I’ll try the next one!

Yes, I reflected on what I'd written and adjusted it to say 'somewhat easier' than the predecessor. But that word is relative. I can assure you that the _first_ puzzle is the most manageable though. Again the primary lesson is: don't trust my assessments, I will probably avoid making them in the future entirely. :) My apologies, and please don't get discouraged!

sad to read that this is the last one, greatly compensated by the joy of solving it.
thanks

I guess there's no need to be so fatalistic. I'll just call it 'Third' instead. Probably won't be revisiting this series for a while though.
