This is another experimental variant, for which setting would be better assisted with the help of a computer. This is the extent I could make by hand, after multiple failures.
Normal Sudoku rules apply. There are some killer cages given, of cage total 10. No additional killer cages of cage total 10 can be added to the grid. Digits cannot repeat in killer cages, and killer cages cannot overlap. Finally, each of the given cages has at least one potential killer cage of size 10 overlapping it.
Here is the Penpa-Edit link for solving
(Kinda) Fun fact: This idea was originally supposed to be for 13, but it is impossible to make a 3x3 box without already having a killer cage of cage total 13 in it.

Is there any no-repeat constraint on the two ficticios types of cages? In other words:
1. Can no additional 10 cage be drawn using non-repeating digits, or can no additional 10 cage be drawn even if digits were allowed to repeat in it?
2. If an existing cage were removed, must the new, alternative cage that overlaps with the original one also obey the no-repeat constraint?
@henrypijames Yes the no-repeat condition holds for all hypothetical killer cages. Also, a side-note that the overlapping condition could possibly be satisfied solely using elements of the given cages. That is, if two adjacent cages have elements that sum up to 10, that satisfies the overlapping condition. Just wanted to clarify that.

I didn't undestand this part:"each of the given cages has at least one potential killer cage of size 10 overlapping it.", because you can't add more cages total 10 to the grid.
@Bellsita this rule means that if any of the given cages were not given, there'd be another cage of cage total 10 using some elements from the first cage.
