Tarot Cards & Numbers, Ep.2

(Eingestellt am 17. September 2019, 10:00 Uhr von gjchangmu)

Rule:
Place all the available cards into different blank cells, and fill all remaining blank cells with numbers 1 to 5. Each row and column must not contain repeated numbers or cards. Each card has its own effect.

Note:
There may be cells that are already filled with given cards. These given cards are not included in the available cards list.

Card effects:
Death Card (D): This card must be placed in the rightmost column or the bottom row. There must not be more than one cards that share the minimum distance to this card, i.e. there must be only one card (instead of tied by multiple cards) that is closest to this card. Distance from cell X to cell Y is calculated as how many steps in minimum it takes to travel from X to Y, in which each step travels to a horizontal or vertical adjacent cell. For example, distance from r1c1 to r2c3 is 3.
Judgement Card (J): The immediate adjacent cells above and below this card must be numbers. The number above must be larger than the number below. This card must not be placed in the upmost or bottom row.
Lovers Card (L): The Immediate adjacent cells left and right to this card must be numbers, and the addition of the two numbers must equal to how many columns there are in the puzzle grid. This card must not be placed in the leftmost or rightmost column.
Power Card (P): Assuming the puzzle grid has N columns, then N-1, N-2 and N-3 are called power numbers. All power numbers in the row this card is placed in must be adjacent to each other, i.e. occupying a succession of uninterrupted cells. Order does not matter. Power numbers are allowed to be missing in this row.
Sun Card (S): The adjacent cells surrounding this card (including diagonal ones) must not contain repeated numbers or cards.

Very entertaining!

Thank you zhergan and bob. English is not my native language either so I'm sure some of the rules would be ambiguous.

As a solver, the majority of my subjective rating is based on how much fun it is to solve, nothing more. To me that is the purpose of a puzzle, to entertain. I will upgrade if puzzle is especially creative or elegantly constructed. I downgrade if there is a lot of trial and error (in my opinion). Difficulty may play a role too. My personal sweet spot is 2-3 stars; easier puzzles sometimes become boring or mechanical, while puzzles that are too hard become frustrating. That being said I rate most puzzles as 4 or 5 for beauty/fun, occasionally 3. If I am not enjoying the puzzle I simply stop solving and put it on the ignore list. As others have said, there are many puzzle-solvers on this site and it would be hard to appeal to all of them.

Nice series. Thank you. This one showed me that I must be more careful when reading the given rules. At last I've noticed that I had misunderstood one rule which prevented me from further progress..

Thank you AnnaTh and marcmees.

A very nice, innovating puzzle which needs a completely different approach than all former puzzles yet solved. Thanks

Another problem with the rating is that the puzzle solver community is rather spoiled by the large amount of fantastic puzzles on the portal. So easy puzzles - well made or not - do not give the same thrill as a more complicated one. I think, that some puzzlers might then feel inclined to give a lower rating, although they liked the puzzle.
So I would not bother too much about the percentage, as beauty is always subjective ;-)

Thank you jessica6.

That below-average rating (number of stars) is for difficulty, not beautyness. Most solvers consider these puzzles as rather easy.

The beautyness rating is shown in the percentage value below the stars, your puzzles have 70%-84% here.

I usually give "nice" (80%) as standard to honor difficulty of construction. A lower rating if I couldn't find a logical path and needed much try/error.

Note that the distance rule of the Death Card is slightly changed in this episode, compared with the previous episode.

This episode is logic solvable and should be easier than the previous one in which I may have gone too far. Also most (if not all) of my future puzzles of any kind will be guaranteed logic solvable. I will provide logical solving path if asked.

Also, as you can see most of my puzzles are rated below average. Could someone give their thought about the reason and about how may I improve my puzzles? Was it because most of my previous puzzles do not encourage logic, or feel too mechanical (because they were mostly algorithm made), or something?
