Classic puzzle, first appeared here in this post by Pyrrhon. (In reality RE is a Nikoli puzzle)
Why it didn't become a fashion???

@DarkBeamita: it was not meant to offend you, I just gave my opinion on your question why it didn't become a fashion. Especially the fact that mostly no givens are in the grid makes them so hard to create that it didn't become fashion. I know from my own experience that these puzzles are hard to create.
I think your activities here are very good for the puzzle portal. There are not that much active puzzle authors around. So keep going!

Dear Richard, I admire your excellent puzzles. I am just trying to create a working puzzle here, all by hand... Not easy for me.

@DakBeamita: good Ripple Effect puzzles have no given digits or only very limited ones. I create them now and then for the website of the Dutch puzzle Association (www.wcpn.nl) but they are among the most difficult puzzles to create. In my opinion that is the reason of not seeing them very often.
