Thank you for the detailed explanation, Phistomefel. My problem was not in understanding the rules of ABC-Box; that was very intuitive, and I've solved similar rulesets before. My problem was in not understanding how they generated skyscraper clues. I assumed it was something like A=1, B=2, C=3, and if both letters on the same edge were the same then that was the clue, and if they were different then the unused letter was the clue. Basically I overthought it.
Now that I've solved it, I have generated a Penpa link for the puzzle, with answer check and a more precise explanation of the rules.

Knowing that you solved extremely difficult puzzles, I think this might be just a little misunderstanding of the rules. Since it seems like there is no English version of the ABC box, I will try to explain the rules in English.
The clues outside of the grid affect the ABC box part. The white cells have to be filled with the letters A, B and C. The amount of symbols tells you how many blocks of the same letter there are in the respective row or column. If the clue is a number, it tells how large such a block of the same letter is, but not which letter. A letter clue tells you which letter is in the respective block, but not how large it is. The order of the clues represents the order of the letter blocks. Adjacent blocks may not contain the same letter. An example: In a row with 6 cells, the clues "A 3 ?" could be AABBBC or ACCCBB or AACCCA, but for instance not AAAABB. These letters then act as crypto skyscraper clues around the yellow box in the center, where the same letters stand for the same number and different letters for different numbers.
I hope this helps a little.

I don't see how this is a 1-star puzzle. I've been going at it for two hours now, and gotten basically nowhere.

A good puzzle, after I stopped being confused.
I thought "ignore yellow" meant that "yellow=white", but no: the ABC-Box has a hole in the middle!
