Differenz sudoku

(Published on 8. May 2009, 17:00 by Richard)

Apply classic sudoku rules. The clues outside the grid indicate the sum of all digits in the corresponding row or column. Count digits in white cells positive, digits in yellow cells negative.

@Richard, interesting variant. I don't think that you have created a sudoku with such ruleset in SVS, is this right?
---
You are right about that; thanks for the notification. This puzzle is over 13 years old and by then it was a nice type. At this time, I am not so happy with the way the clues are presented; every possible number outside the grid has only one possible distribution of sums of negative and positive digits, which is a bit lame as I see it now. But maybe I'll let my thoughts go over a version with only the sum of the digits in coloured or white cells; it would be the addition-version of SVS024 Star products. Maybe I can make that work...
---
Clues aside, the puzzle has very interesting and satisfying logical path, it didn't feel old at all. A good puzzle will always be a good puzzle.

As I not very often tend to leave a comment with those sudokus (though I really like them all a lot(except Killer3), just there is not that much to say really), this one here was a very nice variant indeed! :)

Zwei Fehlversuche wegen Rechenfehlern, danach glatt durchgekommen.

As far as I remember you could the first differenz sudoku very well.

Best for printing is, to use a 25% gray - #CCCCCC in HTML - (or a color that leads to 25% gray when converted to gray).

@Naphtalin: I have chosen for yellow cells, because in the first differenz-sudoku I could hardly see the grey cells. But it's no problem to use another color in the future.

Thanks for the comments. While designing and improving the puzzles I tend to follow the same solving route, and in this case I always ended with rows 1 and 2. But I think it's a good idea, after having decided what the solution code must be, test-solve it once again, focusing on the solution code, to find out if it's quickly to find or not.

But you're right: the solution code is not the most important...

Thank you, Richard!

on 8. May 2009, 20:35 by Calavera
