The numbers in the grid are the sum of the digits in the smaller outlined areas. In the smaller areas digits may not repeat. Both grids have the same solution.

This would be classified as a 3* (maybe 2) today, but this puzzle was well ahead of its time. Bravo! Excellent setting.

Reply: Thanks for the solve and the comment. You are right about the deflation of the difficulty levels, although I created a few more twin killers (also: knapp daneben) that would score at least 4 stars nowadays too. (00001U and 00003G for example, but there are a few more from the same era).
For me it was in 2008 a very common thing to write twin killers, since they were part of the small pack I submitted on a monthly basis to the editor of the magazine 'Sudoku Mix'.

re: re: thanks for responding , Richard. I was just graduating college in 2008 and never had played sudoku then :). I wish more setters did puzzles like yours today. I was glad I found the "elders" puzzles in the advanced search. cheers.

Not too difficult with a nice flow. I found this easier than the 4 stars suggest.
Fun twin. :)

WENN man erstmal den Einstieg (bei mir nach 4-5 Fehlversuchen) geschafft hat, ergibt sich ein schönes stimmiges Sudoko! Gerne mehr davon :-))
