Slitherlink Sum Sudoku

This puzzle was part of this years edition of the notoriously difficult AIVD christmas puzzle in the Netherlands. I've asked their permission to share it here, all credits go to them. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did!
Rules:
- Normal sudoku rules apply.
- Slitherlink - draw a closed loop along the edges of the grid that does not touch or cross itself.
- Slitherlink sums - Every row/column/diagonal is divided into seperate chunks by the slitherlink loop. A number outside the grid represents the sum of the chunks in the corresponding row/column/diagonal, as read towards the number outside the grid. Example: if the row looks like |12|3|456|78|9|, where pipes indicate part of the slitherlink, the sum would be 12+3+456+78+9=558.

Solution code: The diagonal from top left to bottom right, with pipes when passing the slitherlink loop. Example: 27|853|2|9|4|1

Hello, I wanna know how to read the positive main diagonal? From bottom left to top right or the contrary?
