Background: This puzzle plays with the physical phenomenon of interference, in which the amplitudes of several waves overlap and add up. When a wave is split and then recombined, the interference signal is at its maximum when the path difference is an integer multiple of the wavelength. Therefore, the integer multiple is used as the central element in this puzzle.
