two things.
1) ALMOST a "miracle". too many givens for that, but the constraints are weaker.
2) ALMOST an "experts only" puzzle (level 3), except that it's very easy to show a noobest the PROCEDURE you use.
a) the basic principle is that the GLOBAL structure is VERY limited. that's not obvious, but trust in the force and persevere, and you will see it.
b) ignore the odd digits for now. you can't do anything with them.
c) pick an even digit, say 4. cover the entire grid with colour and then diligently eliminate impossible cells. you can see the basic pattern, but it's not good enough yet.
d) but note that the givens put even MORE pressure on 2&8, so erase the results from step c, but apply the PROCEDURE to 2&8. see how you immediately get a DOZEN digits ?
e) now do the other even digits, and then the odd ones.
still think it's level 3 ?

Fantastic puzzle! Absolutely not a 1 star though, I'd say 3 stars (if someone new came looking for easy 1 star puzzles, this would not be a good one to start with).

Great puzzle, also a very good introduction to Chess-Constraints for people to familiar with them.
