Plan-8-ary

(Published on 25. February 2025, 04:28 by Eespi)

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Esther is an astronaut on a mission to visit all nine planets in her system, while avoiding asteroids and black holes. Can you help her calculate her path?

The path is 1-cell wide and moves orthogonally from cell to cell. It can touch itself diagonally but not orthogonally. The path has 180 degree rotational symmetry around the center of the grid.

The path acts as a Dutch Whispers line: orthogonally adjacent digits along the path must differ by 4 or more.

The path must cross every planet (the digit 8).

Kropki dots: Digits separated by an asteroid (white dot) must be consecutive. Digits separated by a black hole (black dot) must have a ratio of 2:1. Additionally, for each pair of cells joined by a kropki dot, one cell is on the path, and the other is not on the path.

X-sums: Stellar coordinates (numbers outside the grid) show the sum of the first X digits in that direction, where X is the first of those digits.

Play it here!

I made this for my girlfriend for our 8 month anniversary. Hope you enjoy!

Nice puzzle. I only had to fill in about a third of the line then solved using sudoku, it would have been even better if the line had to be completed to solve the puzzle

Removed erroneous constraint.

great puzzle, but delete the negative kropki rule, as it is unnecessary and invalid

is my path wrong or is there a white kropki dot missing between R2C3 and R3C3 since we have a negative constraint? Really fun puzzle

Eespi - @lootyloot @Vitp Good catch and great feedback. I'll take away the negative constraint.
