Cassiopeia (Pentominous/Star Battle)
(Published on 21. February 2025, 12:12 by goodcity)
This puzzle is my first round of the pencil puzzle hybrid competition held on the Skunkworks discord server against Nell Gwyn.
- Star Battle : Place black stars into some cells so that there are two black stars in each row and column. No two black stars can touch, even diagonally.
- Pentominous : Divide the rest of the grid into regions of five orthogonally connected cells so that no regions of the same shape share an edge, counting rotations and reflections as the same. Clued cells must belong to a region with the pentomino shape associated with that letter.
- Pentominous Star Battle : Place 2 white stars in each row, in each column, and in each of the 12 standard pentomino types. No two white stars can touch, even diagonally. To clarify, each individual pentomino can contain 0, 1 or 2 stars, as long as the total number of stars within all pentominoes of its type is exactly 2. A clued cell can contain a white star.
The puzzle is available online via penpa
Solution code: Row 4. The letter associated with each pentomino and "S" for a star. For cells containing both a pentomino and a star, write in that order the letter associated with the pentomino and "S".
