Midnight Express (Stations + Star Battle)

(Published on 17. February 2025, 18:30 by The Book Wyrm)

This puzze was originally created for a hybrid setting competition in Skunkworks. I choose stations, my opponent choose Star Battle, and we had to create a puzzle combining the two.

Rules:

  • Draw a loop that moves orthogonally through the centers of every cell. The loop must pass through every stations 1-9 in order, and then return to the 1. The loop cannot turn on a number.
  • Place exactly two intersections in every row and column (except the first/last). Intersections cannot be orthogonally or diagonally adjacent. The loop must cross itself and continue straight at an intersection. The loop cannot cross or touch itself anywhere other than the placed intersections.
Intersections cannot be placed on numbers.

Solution code: For each row top to bottom, the number of times the loop turns in that row.

Very nice concept and a fun puzzle to solve! I have relatively little experience with loop puzzles, and learned a few things from this puzzle. Thanks!

Cool hybrid, great resolution at the end, the stars are surprisingly restricted!

Miraculous puzzle! At first I didn't think it could possibly resolve, and yet it ended up being smooth.

Such an elegant way to combine those rulesets. Loved it !

Really impressive setting, I loved the variety of logic in this one despite the minimalistic grid. Thank you so much for the puzzle!
