Cats and Bats

(Published on 15. February 2025, 18:47 by DubiousMobius)

This puzzle was created for Scojo's weekly setting prompt. This time the theme was entropic lines, modular lines, and anti-diagonal sudoku. I took a lot of inspiration from Aqjhs's excellent entry to the same prompt. Big thanks to Aqjhs and Roger Wrightshoe for testing!

Rules:

Sudoku: Place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column, and box

Anti-X: Each major diagonal consists of exactly 3 unique digits.

Entropic Lines: Along a peach entropic line, any run of 3 digits must include one low digit (1, 2, 3), one medium digit (4, 5, 6) and one high digit (7, 8, 9)

Modular Lines: Along a teal modular line, any run of 3 digits must include one digit from each of the modulo 3 sets, i.e. one from (1, 4, 7), one from (2, 5, 8) and one from (3, 6, 9).

Little Killers: The arrow outside the grid equals the sum of the digits along the indicated diagonal.

Superb puzzle! One of the hardest things to do was to find a notation that worked to simultaneously keep track of entropy and modularity. After I succeeded to do that, the puzzle flowed very smoothly. The little killer clue was very well chosen to disambiguate with a minimal amount of clues. Thank you
