Chaos Construction (Arrows and Region Dum)

(Published on 11. February 2025, 09:18 by Visumation)

Rules:

Place the digits 1-9 in every 3x3 region. There are nine 3x3 regions, which have to be located by the solver. Digits cannot repeat in a row or a column.

A cell with an arrow must contain a digit, indicate how many cells in the direction pointed to belong to regions. (Not including itself.)

Additionally, if the digit X is placed in a cell with an arrow, then the digit X steps away in the direction pointed to must be either X+1 or X-1. Cells outside of regions are counted towards steps.

Box borders divide blue lines into segments with the same sum. Each blue line must visit at least 2 different regions.

Digits separated by a black dot are in a 1:2 ratio.

Digits outside regions do not contain digits.

Solve in Sudokupad

Solution code: Digits in row 1 followed by row 2.

An excellent example of an approachable setting. I've never run out of options. In fact the hardest part for me was the placement of the last digits using sudoku . Great job

Just as clarification: do the sumlines only count in boxes? The rules seem to imply that every line cell must be in a box since they are devided into segments with the same sum, but some segments cross blank spaces.

I think the last part of the rules takes care of that. Might be wrong.
There are no digits in between boxes. So therefore they dont count.
And I dont think the ruleset implies that blue lines have to be in regions. It just says that it must visit at least two regions. Hope this answers your question. /vis

My first public attempt at a construction puzzle, and it was a wonderful example.

Happy you solved it. And hope you are now ready for some of the hard constructors. Thanks for solving. /vis

Chaos construction always intimidates me, but this was an amazing puzzle! Chipped away at the break in and everything came together. Lovely!

Really happy to hear that, as it was intended not to be a Monster. It was actually set to try to get my girlfriend into chaos, because she also gets intimidated by them. Happy you got through and hope you are in for more. /vis

Beautiful puzzle! A great introduction to deconstruction, arrows and region sum lines (maybe update the title, or was that on purpose?). Superb flow and really approachable. Thank you

Oh. See what you are going at with the title. No it was not on purpose. But now I think I’ll leave it just for fun. Thanks for the solve and your kind words. /vis
