Concordia (Sum dots, X-Sums, Kropki, German Whisper)

(Published on 7. February 2025, 21:49 by Bellsita)

After endless classes about isotope geology I came up with this. I'm sorry hahahaha

Rules:

  • You were hired to date rocks from a certain terrain in Brazil. After getting the data from the geochemical analysis of U-Pb isotopes, you finally created a concordia diagram, with 207Pb/235U ratios on its X axis and 206Pb/238U ratios on its Y axis, in which the ages are plotted on the concordia line. In your diagram you found the ages of 3 rocks: the green rock, with 15 million years; the yellow rock, with 20 million years; and the pink rock, with 23 million years. However, the age of the blue rock still needs to be found.
  • Normal sudoku rules apply. Each row, column, and region indicated by thick borders in the grid must contain the digits 1 to 9 once each.
  • Colored dots: A number in a colored circle represents the sum of the four surrounding cells. Digits can repeat in a sum.
  • Kropki: Cells separated by a black dot have a 1:2 ratio. Cells separated by a white dot must be consecutive. Not all dots are given.
  • German whisper: Adjacent digits on a green line differ by 5 or more.
  • X-sums: Numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of the first X digits, where X is the digit in the closest cell to the clue.
  • All the ? represent the same number.
  • The ages on a concordia line keep increasing and the diagram is not to scale.

Solution code: All the digits in c9 from top do bottom (9 digits in total).

This was interesting. I was able to figure out proper solve path in seconds try. Good setting and approachable.

Took me way to long to realize that the ? Clue also applied to the circle. After that hickup, smooth sailing. Took me the time of a 4 but if I read the rules right definitely 3. Loved it

This was one of those puzzles where every initial digit is very satisfying. Well set, and thanks for sharing!

A great theme (even if I didn't fully understand it lol) and a wide variety of logic packed in here. Very cool interactions between the different constriants.

To be honest I still don't understand it either hahahahhaha
