The Keep

(Published on 31. January 2025, 15:00 by Myxo)

The idea for this puzzle came from Palfly Kampling. I was very happy to find a grid that didn't require any given numbers to resolve - in fact, this might be the only one up to symmetries. I am estimating the difficulty as "hard", but it might be much easier for solvers who are already familiar with 6x6 Antiknight-Sudokus.

Rules:

Sudoku: Fill the outlined grid with the digits 1-6 such that no digit repeats in a row, column or region.

Numbered Rooms: Fill all circles with digits from 1-6. A digit N in a circle indicates that the Xth cell in that row or column, viewed from the direction of the clue, contains the digit N, where X is the digit in the cell next to the clue.

Antiknight: Digits placed a chess knight's move apart cannot be the same. (This includes digits in circles.)

I was stuck until I got gravity assist from CTC. Very dense and beautiful sudoku.
Thanks Mark. Triple thanks Myxo.

This may be the most challenging 6x6 I’ve ever solved, but that’s partially because I had never encountered numbered rooms before, and I kept getting my numbers mixed up. Still… I solved it, but I couldn’t for the life of me say how, exactly. Every digit felt like a win! I also learned a few things that I didn’t know before and, for that, I thank you.

Fun puzzle with good logic. Tricky in spots for sure but once I remembered the trick with anti-knight in a 6x6, it made things a touch easier
