The break in felt more like a math problem than a sudoku. Thankfully I enjoy math problems.

I rated this 1/5 difficulty
Nice & approachable variant puzzle! Enjoyed the solve, and there were several nice ideas throughout that were approachable but interesting & useful for the solve.
Overall the puzzle felt 1/5 difficulty, falling between the average-harder end of the 1* rating.
This was an enjoyable solve, and I particularly enjoyed the logic in row 1 and row 9. Thanks for sharing!

As a note, why are there one-cell unlabeled killer/thermo cages in R1C1, R5C1, R5C9, and R9C9?
None of those cages have an indicated sum so they don't place any digits. Since they are only a single cell, they already can't have repeats and the thermo aspect doesn't restrict the value of a single digit. This isn't an issue really, but they don't impact the solve so I am just curious.

@TheNineElements - thanks for your wonderful comments. The 1 cell Killer Cages are purely for the visual effect. They add nothing to the solve.

That was fun. The first number also came out of nowhere, completely unexpectedly.

Lovely puzzle . . . if only the Thermos could've been added in so I didn't have to use the Pen Tool to do my own!!!
