Round The Count

(Published on 29. January 2025, 16:20 by gdc)

After setting a few puzzles with odd lots, I now decided to give other "lots types" a go. This puzzle uses entropic lots which is a variation of the modular lots idea by heliopolix. Thanks to the testers. Hope you enjoy!

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Anti-Diagonal: Each main diagonal contains exactly three distinct digits.
  • Modular Lines: Every run of 3 cells along a hollow line contains a digit from [147], [258] and [369].
  • Entropic Lots: A digit in a circle belongs to an entropic group ([123], [456], or [789]). The circled digit indicates how many digits from that entropic group appear along the attached line. For example: if r2c9 is a 5, then there are five digits from the [456] group on the attached line, including the circled 5.

Got all mixed up between "modularity" and "entropy", but once I got used to it, this flowed smoothly. Thank you!

Fun to figure out the implications of the entropic lots, after that it was a pretty simple fill-in exercise. Not a terrible thing but I suppose it could've used a little more "bite" after the first few digits are in place.

Very nice flow to the solve, each deduction pointed straight to the next. Thanks to the previous comment for so nicely pointing out the diagonal rule, I may or may not have noticed that :] Cool new lots!

Pleasant solve, after reading a second time the rules to see that the diagonals were ANTI-diagonals XD
And after learning again how to play sudoku after the brain washing of the breeak in ^^

Took me over 3hrs. 3.5 star for me, hurt my brain. Enjoyed it tho

Very nice one!
Liked solving on second attempt, became very fluent after being a bit more familiar with constraint.

Great idea, beautifully executed!

Surprisingly smooth and approachable, so long as you can pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time (the physical equivalent of tracking modularity and entropy at the same time).

Cool interactions between the modular and entropic digits. Was a bit confusing at first but easy once I got my head wrapped around it.

Had to keep the rules open. Had to constantly remind myself the difference between modular and entropic. That said, it was great practice.
