Entropical Pairadise (Pairrow, Yin Yang)

(Published on 23. January 2025, 16:44 by DubiousMobius)

Here's my attempt at setting a pairrow Yin Yang. Thanks to Roger Wrightshoe and Aqjhs for testing! All feedback is appreciated, and thanks for playing!

Rules:

Sudoku: Place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column, and 3x3 Box.

Kropki: Cells separated by a white dot contain consecutive digits.

Yin and Yang: Divide the grid into two regions. Each region must be orthogonally connected, and no 2x2 area may belong entirely to either region.

Entropic Yin Yang Pairrows: A cell with a pair of arrows containing the digit N will target the two cells N moves away in the directions indicated by the arrows.

If those two cells belong to the same yin yang region as one another, then the target cells and the clue cell will all share the same entropic class, i.e. they will all be lows (1,2,3), mids (4,5,6) or highs (7,8,9). The clue cell may be a different region than its targets.

If the targeted cells belong to opposing yin yang regions then the target cells and the clue cell will all have different entropic classes.

Solution code: Row 4 with slashes separating cells that belong to opposing yin yang regions. E.g.: 1234/56/789

Fantastic puzzle with incredibly rewarding logic. I found it difficult, but there was always a way through. I loved the interaction between the arrows and yin and yang - a brilliantly clever invention!

Perfect puzzle!

While it's hard, it's far from impossible, and I wasn't stuck for long on each step.

The interaction between rules are awesome.

Thank you so much for setting!

This is avery very nice puzzle. Brutally hard though. Felt like giving up many a times but it was too tantalising to give up. Had to do so much of scanning to finally solve this. Totally agree with @Solverscree ‘s comment that the yin-yang part of it really did not help in placing the digits in mid-solve. Completed that part after the sudoku. Totally echo the wish that it features on CtC to see if there is another more efficient solve path.

I solved it again. I think this time around, I solved on the most efficient path. It is so smooth. Beautiful! A total masterpiece!

I like puzzles that make you feel like a genius for solving them! Seems like a multi-stage break-in which required good deductions at each stage before things started getting easier, but each one a pleasure to find.

Sublime setting. This must be one of my new favorites. There is a great interaction among the arrows i haven't seen explored before, and the way the region building and entropy rules play off each other is very rewarding. Some really beautiful logic here. Thank you very much!
