Two Twos and a Nine

(Published on 22. January 2025, 20:50 by ChinStrap)

This started solely because it sounds like "Two Truths and a Lie" at least in vowel sounds. But the resulting puzzle I am proud to share and hope you all enjoy as much as I did setting it! Special thanks to sujoyku for some initial brainstorming and detailed testing feedback.

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Place three modifier cells in each row, column, and box. Two of the cells have a value of 2, and the third has a value 9, regardless of the digits that appear in those cells. Each digit 1-9 appears in exactly two "2-cells" and one "9-cell" in the grid.
  • Renban Lines:Values on a pink line form a consecutive sequence without repeats in any order.
  • X-Sums: Numbers outside the grid show the sum of the first x values from that direction, where x is the first of those values.
  • Arrows: Values on an arrow must sum to the value in the circle.
  • Black dots separate values in a 2:1 ratio. White dots separate consecutive values. Not all such dots are necessarily given.

All feedback (positive or critical) appreciated!

Solution code: Digits in row 1 from left to right (9 digits)

Nice and relaxing puzzle. As long as you're careful with your pencil marks this is 3 stars difficulty max!

Nicely done, I found a lot of the time there were several different deductions available so there wasn't too much danger of getting stuck.

Was I doubting myself more than once? Was my brain getting twisted in mad ways? And why on earth did I enjoy it nevertheless? :)
What a crazily good puzzle! Thank you so much for letting me test this gem, ChinStrap!
