upcoming upheaval

This is a puzzle I prepared as a gift for @ska234 for the 2024 Secret Puzzle Santa at the CTC Discord server. Publishing it in here with his blessing. Hope you like it.
-
Irregular 10-sudoku rules apply: place the digits 0 to 9 once each in every row, column and region.
-
Each digit corresponds to a chess piece. A space is provided below the grid to mark the digits corresponding to each piece of each color: queens♛♕, kings♚♔, rooks♜♖, bishops♝♗, and knights♞♘. (Filling the spaces below the grid is not required to trigger a check)
Cells marked with a chess piece must have their corresponding digit.
-
For effect of the outer clues, pawns♟♙got digits corresponding to each color and are repeats from the digits of the other pieces, but their spaces below the grid are not fillable.
-
For each digit, cells containing the same digit may not be one chess move apart, where the type of move is the one corresponding to the digit. (For example, if the digit corresponding to the black bishop ♝ were 7 then no two instances of 7 may be on the same diagonal.)
-
Clues outside the grid are skyscraper clues: Each cell represents a ‘skyscraper' whose height is the digit in that cell. Taller skyscrapers obscure the view of smaller ones. Digits corresponding to the clues outside the grid tell how many skyscrapers are visible looking across the row or column from the direction of the clue.

I like the way the chess pieces had their different effects, it worked well indeed. The pawns on the outside seemed a bit redundant though, I don't think I used them.

deeming pawns as irrelevant is on theme, lol
