Per Lie

(Published on 8. January 2025, 11:51 by alhobj)

This puzzle is inspired by and dedicated to my grandfather Per Kristian Lie (20.09.1938 - 26.12.2024). There is one column Per Lie, one row Per Lie, one box Per Lie, one killer cage Per Lie, and one Lie Per clue.

Normal Sudoku rules apply, except for the Lie cells. Nine cells (one in each row, column, and box) contain a Lie — an incorrect value. The value in a Lie cell (1-9) is used for all clues, but only the true value must follow normal Sudoku rules. All clues involve exactly one Lie cell, and all clues will be incorrect if the true value is used.

The goal is to identify the Lie cells and determine their true values. The Lie values make the clues correct. The true values make the sudoku correct (thank you to VitP for the formualtion of the last sentence).

Normal variant rules apply except for the 2-killer cage where a digit can repeat:

Thermometer: Cells along a thermometer increase in value from the bulb to the tip

Palindrome (yellow lines): Digits along a marked palindrome line must read the same forwards and backwards

Renban (purple line): Cells in a marked Renban line or region must contain a set of consecutive digits (in any order) without repeating

German Whispers (green line): Adjacent digits on a German Whispers line must differ by at least 5

Region Sum Line (blue line): The sum of the digits on a line must be the same for every box the line passes through

Double Arrow: The sum of the digits on the line is equal to the sum of the circles at the end of each line

Killer Cage: Numbers must not repeat in a cage (except for the 2-killer cage in r3c4 r4c4). The digits sum to the number given in the top left corner.

Black Kropki dots: A black dot indicates one digit is twice the other

Minimum/maximum: Some cells are marked with inequality symbols (e.g.,

XV: A V between two cells means their sum is 5, an X between two cells means their sum is 10

Quadruple: Small numbers in circles between four cells indicate digits that must appear in those four surrounding cells

Solution code: The true values in the Lie cells from box 1, box 2, box 3, all the way to box 9 (nine digits)

Added: "The Lie values make the clues correct. The true values make the sudoku correct (thank you to VitP for the formualtion of the last sentence)." to the rules. And updated the german translation

the german version of the rules states that "there is AT LEAST one lie cell in each clue", whereas the english version states "... EXACTLY one ...".
IN FACT, either version solves the sudoku, but the TRANSLATION is incorrect.

furthermore, the rules would benefit from adding:
"The "lie" values make the clues correct. The "true" values make the sudoku correct."

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me, and write all the details out (and also solve the puzzle). I did learn german in school but I have not used it for many years so it is very rusty. I now included the word "genau" and hope the grammar makes sense.

The 2-killer cage needs a repeat digit, and it was not stated that that was legal
