Octoquadri Pack (volume 3)

(Published on 1. January 2025, 22:49 by The Book Wyrm)

This is the third part of a collection of puzzles I have created using the octoquadri ruleset invented by Analytical Ninja. I set a bunch of these puzzles across several months because I found the ruleset interesting, and once I had enough I collected them into a pack. I'm now uploading the pack here, split into 4 parts roughly according to difficulty, each containing 4 puzzles.
You can download the full pack as a pdf here.

Here are the links:

Lake

Pencil

DNA

Nibble

Rules: (With the puzzles each variant appears in)

  • Octoquadri: (All puzzles)
Fill the grid with 8 of the digits 1-9, such that each digits appears exactly twice, and no digit repeats in a row, column, or 2x2 box.
  • XV: (DNA)
Digits seperated by an X sum to 10, digits seperated by a V sum to 5.
  • Kropki pairs: (Lake, Pencil)
Digits seperated by a white dot must be consecutive.
  • Inequality: (Lake)
The inequality sign points to the smaller digit.
  • German Whisper: (Pencil, DNA)
Adjacent digits on a green line differ by at least 5.
  • Renban: (Pencil, DNA)
Digits along a purple line form a set of non-repeating consecutive digits.
  • Region Sum Line: (Lake, DNA)
Digits on a blue line sum to the same value in each region it passes through.
  • Thermometer: (Pencil)
Digits along a thermo increase from the bulb end.
  • Same Difference Line: (Pencil)
Each pair of adjacent digits on a turquoise line must have the same difference.
  • Killer: (Lake)
Digits in a cage do not repeat and sum to the total given.
  • Variant Sandwich: (Nibble)
Clues outside the grid give the sum of digits between the highest and lowest digits in that row/column. ?s represent a number from 1-9.

What a treat! These are like canapés, each of them delicious in its own way. Together, 16 of them make a very satisfying meal. Thank you very much!

Lake was my favourite out of all four volumes, just so satisfying to solve! I did have trouble with Nibble, though. At first I assumed that both ? represented the same digit, but that’s on me because I’m unfamiliar with the conventions of the genre. Everything went smoothly once I realized I was misinterpreting the rules.

Adjusted image to only include the puzzles in this part of the pack, added rules to the LMD page, and added links to the other parts of the pack.
