Lie-rises (Flinty Collab)

(Published on 31. December 2024, 20:15 by palpot)

A puzzle collaboration with Flinty.
We made the puzzle for Scojo's weekly setting prompt featuring ‘Killer, Skyscraper, and Liar Clues’.
Happy solving!

Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1 to 9 in each Row, Column, and 3X3 box.

Killers: Digits in cages must not repeat, and sum to the small number in the top left corner of the cage.

Skyscrapers: Each digit in the grid represents a skyscraper of the corresponding height. Clues outside the grid indicate how many buildings can be seen from that direction, where higher buildings block the visibility of lower buildings.

Two Truths and a Lie: Each clue type (Killers, Skyscrapers) is presented in multiple colors. Within each color group, exactly two clues are true, and one is false.

Accessibility note: Killer triplets of the same color group also have the same total. Letter codes have been added in addition to colors.

Solve online: SudokuPad

Solution code: Row 4 digits from left to right.

'Two Truths and a Lie puzzles' are quite the challenge to make, yet you two have managed to raise the stakes! This is one of the finest in its class.

Fantastic puzzle. Tough, but I'm glad I persevered.

On the question of colours versus letters, I actually found that having both was helpful. I used the letter to track the different sets, and the colours to identify true clues. (gray for the false clues.)

Loved the rule set and logic, nicely set, thanks :-)

I think the letters alone would probably be enough without colors, i found having both a bit distracting.
