Anticamel Coloring Book

(Published on 30. December 2024, 21:26 by gdc)

This weeks setting challenge by Scojo was about anti-knight and irregular grids. I took some artistic freedom and went for anti-camel and chaos construction instead. Inspired by the puzzles by Lubaf and ralphwaldo1. Thanks to the CtC discord for testing. Hope you enjoy!

  • Chaos Construction: Divide the grid into 9 regions of orthogonally connected cells. Place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column and region.
  • Anti-Camel: Digits separated by a camel move (in fairy chess) may not contain the same digit. A camel moves 3 steps forward and 1 step to the side.
  • Internal X-Sums: A digit in a circle counts the number of cells it sees of its own region in its row and column combined, including itself. Region borders and elephants block vision. If given, a 2-digit number in a rectangle gives the sum of all 'seen' digits.

Example: Anti-Camel

In fairy chess, a camel in the center of the grid could move to all the red squares. It is similar to a chess knight, but makes a (3,1) leap rather than a (2,1) leap. In an anti-camel sudoku, the central digit can not repeat in any of the red squares.

Solution code: The digits in the region containing the 10-clue in reading order (9 digits)

I must confess, I'm pro-camel myself... nevertheless, another brilliant puzzle! You're on a hot streak.

A very nice puzzle, ending was quite tricky unless I missed an easier path.

The anticamel rule brought some really interesting logic.

gdc: I added a hidden comment with the intended logic for the end-solve. It is certainly not easy.

Perfect puzzle to be the last one I‘m solving this year. Three star chaos construction is just the best!
And I loved the fact, that „elephants block vision“ :-)

Superb puzzle! I had a little trouble with the anticamel scanning, which turned out to be very important. Thank you
