Disjoint Treasure Hunt

(Published on 29. December 2024, 06:48 by meggen033)

It has been a while since I set a tricky disjoint puzzle. This one should come in around 2.5 stars for difficulty (so not too bad)! Check out some of my previous tricky disjoint puzzles:

1.) Pitter Patter

2.) Dream Weaver

3.) Disjoint Hypothermia

4.) Bright Eyes

5.) Thick as Thieves

6.) Rat-a-Tat-Tat

7.) The Quartering

8.) Cross-Check

9.) Disjoint Fog

10.) Asteroid Assassin

11.) Disjoint RACECAR Quartet

12.) A Long Whisper's Night

13.) Nocking Point

14.) Disjoint Knight

15.) Disjoint Air Show

16.) Disjointages

17.) Disjoint Dominoes

Solve with SudokuPad

• Normal Sudoku rules apply.

• Disjoint Set: Cells in the same relative position in different boxes cannot contain the same digits.

• Digits in a cage do not repeat and sum to the clue in the top left.

• Adjacent cells connected with an X must sum to 10.

I enjoyed the disambiguation at the end. Very elegant solution.

Great puzzle! I learned a new technique for solving these disjoints. I also colored it up, but it certainly took me some time. Very enjoyable!

Very nice puzzle. Gave it 3 stars as it seems to be a little trickier than your other two star puzzles.

I found it harder and rated it 4 stars for difficulty. But who knows, maybe my scanning was a bit weaker than usual. In any case, it was a very enjoyable challenge. Thank you, meggen033!

I rated this 2/5 difficulty.

Great disjoint puzzle with a cool premise and some nice ideas! I decided to make this a coloring puzzle and was happy to find the pattern(s) arise as I colored every cell. I was able to color almost all of the puzzle before disambiguating values (except for 4? Digits/colors - all paired up), and I enjoyed the disambiguation step at the end which cleared up the remaining colors and values nicely. The use of the 7 and 14 cage was another really nice idea that had some cool implications - definitely my favorite aspect of the solve.

I personally find disjoint puzzles sometimes tedious and difficult to scan for, but I enjoyed that I didn't need to worry about scanning too much since the pattern used some clean geometry that I was able to grasp early on. I think this use of the disjoint constraint is very nice and made for a fun puzzle.

The coloring phase felt somewhat like an XV puzzle (at least, used a similar strategy), which I very much enjoyed. I think the coloring difficulty was around 2-3/5 difficulty for me. Recognizing the geometric 'tricks' wasn't too difficult, but understanding how the 7/14 cages interact with the disjoint constraint and the primary puzzle 'idea' is a bit tougher than a most 2* puzzles I have solved. Definitely approachable and fair, but just slightly more 'advanced' than most 2* puzzles.

The disambiguation with the killer cages & Xs was around 1-2/5 difficulty for me. It wasn't trivial, but by pencilmarking it carefully it is definitely approachable.

I was originally tempted to rate this 3/5 difficulty just because I found the disjoint interactions a bit tough to spot, but the whole symmetric geometry made it more approachable - so I tilted it towards 2/5 difficulty instead.

Overall great puzzle! Definitely one of my favorite disjoint puzzles I have solved!
