gdc is chaos

By Rangsk

I created this puzzle as part of Cracking the Cryptic's Secret Santa - a gift for gdc! gdc suggested I post the puzzle here so others can enjoy it. It's a chaos construction with standard zipper lines, entropic lines, and kropki pairs, but also each constraint has additional rules that limit same or different regions. Pay attention to the rules carefully!

Rules:

  • Normal Chaos Construction Sudoku rules apply:

Place the digits 1-9 in each row, column, and hidden region. It is up to the solver to discover where the regions are. Each cell must belong to exactly one region, and regions must be contiguous.

  • Zipper Lines:

The thinner violet lines in the grid are zipper lines. Digits equidistant from the center sum to the digit in the center. A circle marks the center to aid identification. The digit in the circle also counts the number of cells within the 3x3 surrounding area that are in the same region as the circle, including the circle itself. Additionally, the circle is in a different region than any other cell on the zipper line.

  • Entropic Lines:

The thicker peach lines in the grid are entropic lines. Each entropic line contains exactly one digit each from the sets {1, 2, 3}, {4, 5, 6}, and {7, 8, 9}. Additionally, each cell on an entropic line is in a different region than the other cells on the same line.

  • Kropki Pairs:

Black dots separate digits in a 1:2 ratio, and the cells separated by a black dot belong to different regions. White dots separate consecutive digits, and the cells separated by white dots belong to the same region. Not all possible dots are necessarily given.

I almost skip this one because the rules sounded a little bit overwhelming at first, but I'm so glad I didn't. Lovely puzzle!

Really enjoyed this. Good flow overall. Some really nice logic in how the zippers interact with the CC rules and the counting. Great puzzle!

still think the title should've been Gdc Does Chaos ;)

Great puzzle. Chaos constraint tends to be felt more difficult to me personally. So rather 4* to me. But very clever setting thx.

Thanks again for this great gift Rangsk! Love the choice of the constraints and how they all interact with the regions. The flow of this puzzle is superb throughout.
