Octoquadri Pack (volume 1)

(Published on 27. December 2024, 22:11 by The Book Wyrm)

This is the first part of a collection of puzzles I have created using the octoquadri ruleset invented by Analytical Ninja. I set a bunch of these puzzles across several months because I found the ruleset interesting, and once I had enough I collected them into a pack. I'm now uploading the pack here, split into 4 parts roughly according to difficulty, each containing 4 puzzles.
You can download the full pack here.

Here are the links:

Garden Path

Grill

Mortar and Pestle

Island Fortress

Rules: (With the puzzles each variant appears in)

  • Octoquadri: (All puzzles)
Fill the grid with 8 of the digits 1-9, such that each digits appears exactly twice, and no digit repeats in a row, column, or 2x2 box.
  • Global Entropy: (Garden Path)
Every 2x2 square (not necessarily region) must contain 1 low digit (123), 1 medium digit (456) and 1 high digit (789).
  • XV: (Mortar and Pestle, Island Fortress)
Digits seperated by an X sum to 10, digits seperated by a V sum to 5.
  • Kropki pairs: (Grill, Mortar and Pestle)
Digits seperated by a white dot must be consecutive. Digits seperated by a black dot must be in a 1:2 ratio.
  • Inequality: (Garden Path)
The inequality sign points to the smaller digit.
  • Whisper: (Island Fortress)
Adjacent digits on a yellow line differ by at least 3.
  • Region Sum Line: (Grill)
Digits on a blue line sum to the same value in each region it passes through.
  • Thermometer: (Garden Path, Mortar and Pestle)
Digits along a thermo increase from the bulb end.
  • Killer: (Garden Path)
Digits in a cage do not repeat and sum to the total given.
  • Quads: (Garden Path)
Digits in white circle must appear in the 4 surrounding cells.
  • Fortress: (Island Fortress)
A digit on a grey cell must be larger than all orthogonally adjacent cells.
  • Entropic Line: (Island Fortress)
Every set of three digits along a peach line must contain 1 high digit (789), 1 mid digit (456), and 1 low digit (123).

There other parts of this pack can be found here: Part 2 Part 3 Part 4

Solution code: Row 1 of each puzzle in the order listed, 16 digits.

What a treat! These are like canapés, each of them delicious in its own way. Together, 16 of them make a very satisfying meal. Thank you very much!

Adjusted image to only include the puzzles in this part of the pack, added rules to the LMD page, and added links to the other parts of the pack.

please 1) post the rules here (I do not want to click on each link just to get the rules), and 2) don't show puzzles unrelated to the solution, i.e. show only the first 4 grids here.

-----------------

I was mostly following the format of a similar pack I'd seen (ID=00HSU) for this, but you make some good points. I'll update the page with those changes once I've posted the last part, as I was planning to update it then anyway.
