Yin Yagn

(Published on 27. December 2024, 05:38 by timotab)

Yes, the rules are long, but mostly it's being explicit about what WROGN clues are
  • Normal sudoku rules apply: Place the digits 1-9 in every row, column, and box, without repetition.
  • Yin Yang: Shade some cells such that all shaded cells are orthogonally connected, all unshaded cells are orthogonally connected, and no 2x2 area is fully shaded or fully unshaded.
  • A clue that is in cells that are all shaded or all unshaded is RIGHT. A clue that has at least one cell shaded and at least one cell unshaded is very, very WROGN. See below for exact definitions of WROGN clues.
  • RIGHT Cages: Digits in cages must sum to the value in the top left corner of the cage.
  • RIGHT Kropki: Where digits are separated by a black dot, one must be double the other. Not all dots are necessarily given.
  • RIGHT Renban: Digits on a purple line form a set of non-repeating, consecutive digits in any order.
  • RIGHT Nabner: No two digits on a gold line can be consecutive, regardless of their position on the line. Digits may not repeat on lines.
  • RIGHT Quadruples: Digits in a Quadruple circle must be placed at least once in the four cells touching that circle.
  • WROGN Cages: Digits in cages must not sum to the value in the top left corner of the cage.
  • WROGN Kropki: Where digits are separated by a black dot, neither is allowed to be double the other.
  • WROGN Renban: No two digits on a purple line can be consecutive, regardless of their position on the line. Digits may not repeat on lines.(ie, WROGN renban lines are RIGHT nabner lines).
  • WROGN Nabner: Digits on a gold line form a set of non-repeating, consecutive digits in any order. (ie, WROGN nabner lines are RIGHT renban lines)
  • WROGN Quadruples: Digits in a Quadruple circle must not be placed at all in the four cells touching that circle.

Loved the puzzle, took me way too long to solve it. I didn't know where to start and then where to look next. Nevertheless I thought it was really nicely flowing, I was just too stupid to find the next deductions.
Great combination of all the different rules. Thanks for the puzzle!!

Both wrogn and yin-yang puzzles tend to be at least 3 starts and more often higher. I'm surprised you managed to combine the two and end up on only 2 stars. And with a very nice puzzle.

Loved it. More likw 3 stars, usually I give up after an hour and a half or so, but I really wanted to solve this. Took me more than 2.5 hours

This was my first wrogn puzzle, and it really took me far too long to solve for a 2 star puzzle, but wow was it worth it!

Cool constraint! Very nice puzzle. I liked that it was interesting yet easy. However, I would love to see another, harder version :)

Loved it. Intimidating length of rules, but not that complex, and I didn't find myself needing to refer back to them. Thanks for sharing.

We are not usually fans of either ying yang OR wrogn puzzles ... we quailed at even attempting this one but wound up absolutely loving it!

This is *really* good. Enjoyable throughout, and somehow pretty approachable, which is a combination that feels like it should be impossible for a wrogn yin yang :)

A very fun puzzle with awesome logic! Thanks a lot, what a nice treat!

Nice and smooth. Very fun with the wrogn aspect and a lot of fresh logic.

I think it was the right choice to be very explicit about what "wrogn" means for every clue type.

Now THIS is a fun puzzle. A great wrogn concept, and a very novel approach with yin yang. A joy from start to finish. Thank you!

Nice puzzle, and a fun solve! Thanks!

Some lovely interaction between the shading and clues in both directions, and some wrogn goodness for added fun. Enjoyed this a lot.
