Position Sums mit Average Arrows

(Published on 27. December 2024, 16:59 by glum_hippo)

Fill the grid with digits 1 to 9 so that each row, column and 3x3 box contains each digit exactly once.

Digits in the first and second cell from the top and from the left are A and B. Clues outside the grid tell something about A and B: The clue closest to the grid gives the sum of A and B. The sum of the digits on positions A and B from that side is given in the clue in the grey bar.

EXAMPLE: the digits sequence 841627935 have A=8 and B=4, so A+B will be 12, and the sum of the 8th and the 4th (Ath plus Bth) digit is 3+6 = 9.

A number in a circle is the exact mean (average) of numbers along any attached arrow (The mean of k numbers is the sum of those numbers, divided by k). In the case of multiple arrows, each arrow is calculated separately.

The puzzle can be solved in Penpa+ here.

SudokuPad version.

Tough break-in, but after that it got a lot more approachable. I noticed I more or less automatically worked on the right 'next clue' when I (finally) understood how to begin. Very cool puzzle.

Fantastic puzzle. For anyone else who tackles this, I suggest you keep reminding yourself that arrow circles display **averages**, not totals!

Holy crackers, what an awesome and beautiful puzzle with also a (very) tight solve till the end!
A quite unexpected first digit to start on, then I had to be reliant on some note checks to make sure what I did around box 1 was correct but after that, the rest of the solve just became satisfying overall x)

I appreciate the feedback, dear friend!

Fascinating puzzle! A ruleset that could very easily feel tedious to deal with, but it never does in this puzzle.

Thanks for solving! I was surprised myself, about the way things were restricted.
