Sudoku Variants Series (404) - Factor Lines

(Published on 27. December 2024, 10:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants Project I have planned to publish a different Sudoku variant every week. I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

Logic solvable
Like all of my sudoku variants, this puzzle can be solved by logic alone. Guessing is not required and also no sophisticated solving techniques are necessary; just plain and easy sudoku steps and of course the intrinsic logic this specific variant has to offer. In case you don't find that logic or get stuck, feel free to ask for a hint in the comments below this puzzle and I'll be happy to help you.

Factor Lines
Apply classic sudoku rules.
For every pair of adjacent digits on a grey line, one digit must be a factor / multiple of the other. Adjacent digits can be equal on a diagonal line.

Inspiration for this type comes from Sudoku GP 2024 (Turkish Round).

Solve online in Penpa+ or in Sudokupad.

Solution code: Row 9

Great fun, thanks! I enjoyed the GP puzzle as well, which was set by Can Erturan (cane_puzzles), if I remember correctly what he told me after the round. :-)
---
Yes he did. Author's names are revealed in the solutions booklet that is published after the GP-round.
I didn't participate in the GP, nor looked at the puzzles, but there was also one of this kind in the GP-finals during WSC in Beijing. The people in the audience received a copy of the finals puzzles and I solved it there too. (Took me a bit longer than the finalists though...) So the actual inspiration comes from that finals puzzle. :)

Disagree with Myxo ... for me this was the hardest SVS since your return but this personal perception is definitely unrelated to the fun experienced when solving. Thanks
---
You are right about that; at this moment it is the hardest of the latest six SVS's.
It is still my goal to write SVS's that are approachable for a bigger group of players, but still challenging enough to let people learn from it too. Sometimes it is hard to find the right difficulty. This one is indeed on the hard side.

Nice puzzle! The variant mostly comes down to pencilmarking the lines and eliminating candidates, but it's surprisingly fun. I wonder about the inclusion of the disclaimer - to me, this was the easiest SVS entry since your return, and there was no urge to bifurcate.

Reply: thanks for your comment. I noticed more players are nitpicking these days, and sometimes players tell me that they needed to guess (unnecessary), so I thought it can't do harm to write that in the future for all SVS's. I always copy the first paragraphs from the previous puzzle, so it takes no effort.

Reply: is one of the links broken? Here it functions well...
---
Ah it was a common error 404 joke actually, all of the links are fine, I still had fun solving this puzzle :)

Hahaha, I feel pretty blond for not recognising this! :)
